HOW TO KEEP FOOD COSTS LOW
SKIP / EAT SPARINGLY
- Spices / Ingredients that are "nice to have" in a recipe
- Fish. Seafood, nice Meats
- Desserts, Sweet Foods, Junk Snacks
- Alcohol, Juices
- BUY FROZEN / CANNED
- Vegetables (green beans, peas, carrots, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, corn)
- Fruits, that go into breakfast smoothies
- Unprocessed protein (chicken, tilapia, cod)
BUY IN BULK
- Shelf stable carbs (rice, ramen, pasta, lentils, couscous, quinoa)
- Spices (get them from ethnic stores!)
- Fresh salmon, then cut up and freeze what I won't eat in the week
WILL NOT SIMP
- Food for when I am hosting friends
- Fancy cheese and crackers
- Good coffee beans for hubby
- Wine (but get it at Costco)
- ...because we all still are human and could use a treat here and there
