HOT, WARM, AND COLD SALES STRATEGIES FOR CREATIVES

These are the foundational principles for selling creative services, where to find clients, and how to use your sales time effectively.

You can’t sell creative services like a widget. Each client has a unique brand and needs. Your clients must TRUST that you understand their complex needs and have the ability to solve them. TRUST is built in relationships and RELATIONSHIPS are built over time.

Sales strategies are divided into HOT, WARM, and COLD categories based upon your level of relationship with the potential client. Strategies in which you have a high-level relationship are HOT. Those with low, or no, relationship are COLD.

  • Hot Sales Strategies: Repeat client requests. Ask recent clients for more projects. Ask your close relationships.
  • Hot Sales Strategies: Repeat client requests. Ask recent clients for more projects. Ask your close relationships.
  • Warm Sales Strategies: Potential clients referred to you. Reaching out to past customers. Ask for referrals. Response to blind RFPs.
  • Cold Sales Strategies: Networking events. Content marketing. Traditional advertising. Social media marketing. Award marketing. Event marketing. Freelancer websites. Cold calling.
