A Guide To The Inbox Zero Email Method

A Guide To The Inbox Zero Email Method

  • Inbox zero allows you to create a to do list using your email account, get quick wins out of the way, and deprioritize things that are not important
  • Design specific times during the day to look at inbox. Don't keep it constantly on
  • As you view emails..
    - does it need my response? If no, archive
    - could I respond to this in less than a few minutes? Respond right away, then archive
    - does this need more thought and work? If yes, become a to do and keep in inbox
    - is this something I should unsubscribe from? If yes, unsubscribe
  • Are you someone with 10, 000 emails in your inbox right now?
  • Archive everything and start over.
  • Release the stress! You can always find an email you need using the search function
  • Use folders / labels to group active emails from current projects.
  • Once projects are finished, consider moving those folders/ labels to an archival folder
  • Create filters and rules for things you do often.
  • For example, all my order confirmations are tagged with the label "Receipts"
  • Be aware of zero obsession
  • The goal is not to have a perfectly 0 inbox, but a manageable one. You're not going to get down to 0 all the time
